INTRODUCTION
This course covers topics
related to the "six-step method" used by industry
for designing a package to protect a fragile product. Areas covered
are shock fragility, test standards and lab equipment for measuring
fragility, using fragility information to design a package for a product,
limitations of the method, impact recorders for measuring the distribution
environment, cushion performance and optimal cushion design, and vibration
damage and simulation.
The material for this course
is not available on the web. Students are asked to buy a soft-bound
course pack costing around $10.00 so that there is no need to download
and print off web documents. This course pack contains all the
material you will need for this advanced course as well as an up-front
review of basic shock and vibration. Numerous examples, review
questions, and answers to review questions are included. The course
pack will be made available through a campus bookstore shortly before
the start of the semester. You can order it by phone or on-line.
